The successful person is the one who creates opportunities for himself and goes round knocking on door and leaves no stone unturned. Thats cos I guess all things being equal, the person who is hungrier and has a larger apetite for new opportunities will come out tops. You must of course be ready to tackle these new issues too. You have, through your years at crummy and unsatisfying jobs prepared you for this new one. So definitely dont look back at those times with sadness but that it has prepared you for this and now you're happier than ever.

And I agree with ching abt finding the perfect love, it doesnt quite fall on your lap. Esp for a guy.
